Global Lock/Wiggle Strategy is an initial start through endgame strategy popularized by the player lou that has since gained a widespread following. It consists of the following steps:

  • Lock the entire puzzle. You can do this by pressing the l key on the keyboard.
  • There are two ways to go on this strategy. One is to Start a Global wiggle.
  • Unlock selected areas, usually in small sections (2-5 plus sidechains). Remember sidechains also get locked with a Global Lock so you may want to individually unlock them.

  • Move around the puzzle selecting different sections. If the Score decreases, you can't stop and undo like Sirenbrian's Local Wiggle Strategy, but you can stop the wiggle and restore best (CNTRL-B) and lock that section before continuing. The objective is to get a good backbone start before a lot of pulling, so keep working around the puzzle.
  • Note where you find good release points. You'll see a big jump or reduction in score there. Once your puzzle is set later, those may be good choices for tweaks.
  • After you have unlocked all the sections, unlock everything (you can use the l key to unlock the entire puzzle including sidechains) and do a Shake Sidechains and then a global wiggle. Try the shake and wiggle combination until your points run out. You can also pull after the unlock before trying combinations of Shake Sidechains and global Wiggle.
  • The second method is to lock the puzzle and select small portions to unlock and then use the local wiggle. Essentially this is like the Local Wiggle Strategy except the sidechains may be locked. The locking of the entire puzzle gives a good visual aid to where you have unlocked.

Uses Edit

  • This technique can be very effective in setting up a good backbone early.
  • It's helpful when seeking out points in the endgame.
  • It can be used as a substitute for a local wiggle when local-wiggling the given amino acids proves to be radically unstable.
