Tutorial interface and General OptionsEdit

The Tutorials have limited options in the lower menu bar.

Click Menu > General Options, to turn off the sound track and sound effects and to turn on Colorblind mode.

Tip: General Options will also show you the version number you have installed and the Update Group: main or devprev. You can turn on the Advanced GUI in Tutorial puzzles but it will have no effect.

Basic interfaceEdit

You can successfully play and win! using the tools in the Basic interface.

When you open a science puzzle, look at the Rank and Score line, at the centre top of the screen, if the Score is an integer next to a bar in a box then you are in the Basic interface.

Extra menu items will now be available from the lower menu bar: Social, Modes, Behavior and View. Check out the Tools page. http://foldit.wikia.com/wiki/Tools for details.

Tip: If you lose your protein on the screen – the Q or Home key will move it back to the centre of your screen. Mac users who have no Home key (and if Q key does not work) try Fn plus left arrow key.

The other important section available in all of the interfaces except the tutorials, is the Scoreboard. You can see who else is playing the puzzle and your Current or Best score.

Tip: Click a player name in the scoreboard to go to their player page.

Advanced Interface (GUI)Edit

To turn on the Advanced GUI - Click Menu> General Options and click the box to put an X next to Show Advanced GUI.

• Your Score is shown to three decimal places.
• The advanced View menu contains more options to view and get information about your protein.
• The Selection interface button is available in the Menu options in the lower menu bar.

Tip: Try out the Color options in the View Options - The Color section provides several different ways to change the colour of the protein. For example View Options > Color > Score - it colours the low scoring parts of the protein in shades of red like the tutorial; Rainbow - it colours the protein from the start to the end which can make it easier to understand how it is folded.

Selection Interface Edit

The selection interface Is very different from the other interfaces. You can refine your selection of parts of the protein and then use the standard tools to manipulate them. The tool controls float around and appear and disappear as they become available; and you will probably need to use keyboard controls more. foldit 101 suggests that you play around and see how it all works.

Tip: to return to the Advanced interface click the green foldit logo, select Main, then select Original interface.

Tip: To open the Cookbook in the Selection interface press the C key on your keyboard.
